From President Wakabayashi | Lead Our Global Growth with Initiative

Hello everyone,
This is Ken Wakabayashi, President & CEO of 7-Eleven International LLC.

Let me begin by sharing a bit about my career journey. During my university years abroad, I developed a strong desire to "one day work outside of Japan." With that ambition in mind, I joined Seven-Eleven Japan in 1994. I began as an OFC (Operations Field Counselor), then took on overseas-related assignments in the Planning Division before moving to Ito-Yokado, where I handled finance and business development.

Although those roles were fulfilling, my determination to work overseas only grew stronger. At that time, there was no system for employees to directly apply for transfers across departments, but I took the initiative to draft my own application, outlining the contributions I could make abroad. Looking back, it might have been a bold move for a young employee, but a few months later, my wish came true—I was assigned to 7-Eleven, Inc. in the U.S.

In 2018, I took charge of the International Division at 7-Eleven, Inc. and worked closely with Shinji Abe—then Head of Global Business Expansion at Seven-Eleven Japan and now Chairman of 7-Eleven International LLC—on Project One, an initiative to integrate the two companies' international businesses. After two years of dedicated effort, 7-Eleven International LLC was established in June 2021. I first served as Co-CEO, and since 2024, I have had the honor of leading the company as President & CEO.

Reflecting on my career, I believe one lesson stands out above all others: taking initiative is the key to opening doors and creating opportunities.

At 7-Eleven International LLC, I emphasize what we call the Seven Promises—principles I personally commit to, and values I encourage everyone to embrace:

1, Do What's Right – Always make the right choices for our customers and colleagues.

2. Build Trust – Start by creating mutual trust.

3. Promote DE&I – Transform our diversity of culture, language, and background into strength.

4. Provide Growth Opportunities – Grow the company to expand opportunities for everyone.

5. Put the Team First – Prioritize the team's success over individual gain.

7. Get Things Done – Follow through and deliver results.

8. Be Transparent – Share information openly and proactively.

In global business, what matters most is not how well you speak English—it's how well you listen. By practicing the attitudes embedded in the Seven Promises, respecting local cultures, and engaging with others' perspectives, we can earn trust and achieve lasting success.

Looking ahead, the growth of the 7-Eleven brand will depend more than ever on our global business. As the central hub connecting licensees worldwide with our Group, 7-Eleven International LLC plays a pivotal role. That is why I urge each of you to "Move With Speed"—act with urgency while maintaining quality. With this mindset, we will expand into new regions, make bold investments, and continue driving growth.
